Violence marked the morning in Jerez de la Frontera, Andalusia, Spain. No one could notice that a student from the Elena García Armada Institute, located in the San José Obrero neighborhood, arrived armed. Nor that he would carry out a brutal attack in a classroom within minutes.

That student is 14 years old and went to his study center on Thursday, September 28, 2023 with two knives. He carried them hidden in his backpack.

Classes had just started and according to EFE, according to a student from a neighboring classroom, “the student angrily walked to the back of the classroom where his backpack was, grabbed two knives and started attacking indiscriminately.”

The aggression evoked chaos, confusion and terror. The balance of the event is that three teachers and two students were injured.

In the eyes of someone else, that student is “not a problem boy, but he is always alone, he has ‘a touch’; I think he has gone crazy,” he told EFE.

What happened?

The young man “opened the suitcase, took out two knives, stabbed my friend and there was panic,” said a student, according to Antena 3.

“He stabbed a teacher who was in the classroom in the eye,” said another student.

Another description of the shocking moment, published in the aforementioned Spanish media, was offered by a student. He said the young man pulled out the pair of knives and “then He starts to irritate everyone, even the teacher, whom he hit in the eye. My friend almost got caught and another friend punched him in the forearm.. And of my physics and chemistry teacher in mind.”

He started shouting: ‘I’m going to kill you’. We are all in shock. We didn’t expect it at all.

Student

“I saw the boy with two knives, who looked like he wants to stab everyone,” a student explained to Canal Sur, without giving his first or last name, AFP added.

It was 8:25 in the morning and the news was ‘flying’ in Jerez de la Frontera. Ambulances and parents of the students arrived at the doors of the institute in desperation to find out who the injured were and how to provide help.

The threat of the student in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain

No one realized the risk they were running with that boy with knives hidden among his belongings.

But the Spanish press reports that this boy apparently “warned a classmate not to go to class today (Thursday) because he would kill him:

“One, two three, don’t come to class tomorrow because I’m going to kill you,” say some students at the institute, who also claim they threw hot water on her days earlier, Antena 3 reported.

What happened to the aggressor?

According to EFE, the student was detained by police at the same center, still carrying the two knives he used to commit the attack.

The Spanish agency said, citing the law, that “being over 14 years old is already guilty of crimes.”

No one noticed what happened on Thursday, September 28, at the Elena García Armada Institute to this third-year compulsory secondary education (ESO) student, but there were signs.

EFE also reported that “a parent at the center reported that the minor had already been involved in a violent episode, such as throwing chairs in the classroom.”

The mayor of Jerez de la Frontera María José García-Pelayo, quoted in AFP, summarized what happened at the institute: “It was devastating.”
