From the Bronx (New York) to Sinaloa, Mexico. That was the route taken by the husband of the owner of the daycare center where the child Nicholas Feliz Dominici died of fentanyl poisoning.
The death of the one year and ten months old child was registered on September 15, 2023. That day, as reported by the EFE agency, the husband of the owner of the daycare center Divino Niño, “was seen on a video leaving the daycare . center with two full shopping bags.”
The man was identified as Félix Herrera García. His wife is Grei Méndez, 36 years old.
Méndez was the one who called to ask for help, because in her daycare, which had been open since January this year, there were some children who were not waking up, reports EFE. Along with Nicholas, two other boys and an 8-month-old girl were affected and received medical attention.
Along with Méndez, the man to whom he rented a bedroom in the apartment where the Bronx daycare operated, Carlisto Acevedo Brito, 41, was arrested. This subject is said to be the cousin of Méndez’s partner.

Captured in Sinaloa
On September 26, 11 days after Nicholas’ death, authorities reported that “they tracked the whereabouts of Félix Herrera, the husband of the daycare owner, through the DEA and were able to arrest him in Sinaloa, Mexico,” according to Univision.

Of course, the arrest point draws powerful attention because it is Sinaloa, the “cradle” of the cartel once led by Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, and today accused of “flooding U.S. territory with fentanyl.”
In April this year, the DEA ruled that the Sinaloa Cartel and Los Chapitos are primarily responsible for the fentanyl ‘flooding’ the United States (…) The children of ‘El Chapo’ are responsible for the mass entry of fentanyl into the United States States States”, published El Universo and El País respectively.
In Univisión they explained that because he was in Mexico he could benefit from the protection of protection, which could delay the process of bringing him to the United States, where it is believed he will be indicted on local charges , for the death of the child and drunkenness of the other three minors; and federal charges of conspiracy to distribute drugs and possession of narcotics (…).”
Nicholas died of intoxication and authorities twice found fentanyl in the daycare. The second time they found a ‘hidden door’ or ‘staircase floor’ under the area where the children played.

After learning of the child’s death, they found “in the apartment, where the childcare center operated, a kilo of fentanyl packed in a package that was on the children’s play mats (…),” according to EFE.
Méndez’s lawyer, Andrés Aranda, quoted in EFE, noted that the woman “did not know that her husband’s cousin, to whom she rented a room, was storing drugs in the childcare facility,” El Universo published on September 21.

Nicholas Feliz Dominici had only been going to daycare for a week.

Authorities, as reported in Semana, “identified that not only was there a significant amount of fentanyl at the site, but that a drug production was also conducted there.”
“We accuse these people of poisoning four babies and killing one of them because they were running a drug operation out of a daycare center. A daycare center: a place where children should be safe, not surrounded by a drug that can kill them in an instant,” said federal prosecutor Damian Williams, according to EFE.
