The ability to repair iPhone 15 yourself was appreciated

iFixit engineers assessed the level of repairability of new Apple smartphones. This is reported on the company’s website.

Specialists from a company studying the design of gadgets said that smartphones in the iPhone 15 line have approximately the same design as devices in the iPhone 14 series. The devices can be disassembled yourself, but home repairs are complicated by Apple’s restrictions.

The iFixit report notes that the iPhone 15 and other devices in the series have an excellent design, which makes it possible to replace some parts of the gadgets yourself. At the same time, the level of maintainability of the devices was generally called low, rating it 4 points out of 10.

According to engineers, Apple smartphones have numerous software limitations that prevent component replacement. So, when installing new lenses, the iPhone 15 camera may stop working. “If you want to replace the display, battery or main camera on the iPhone Pro Max 15 yourself, you can physically do it, but it will be blocked by software,” the report’s authors emphasized.

At the end of September, iFixit enthusiasts lowered the repairability rating of the iPhone 14. In the fall of 2022, experts gave the Apple smartphone a rating of 7 points, but a year later they reduced it to 4 points.
