In the unfortunate and tragic case of the death of the one-year-old child who died under the influence of fentanyl, it is believed that the daycare center, where the events took place, was a “front” for the production of drugs.

On Friday the 15th of this month, they called emergency services from the Divino Niño daycare center, located in The Bronx, New York, because some children “didn’t wake up,” the EFE agency reported.

One of the babies, Nicholas Feliz Dominici, died. The boy had only been attending the daycare for a week, where Grei Méndez, the 36-year-old owner, was taken into custody last Friday.

Carlisto Acevedo Brito, 41, was arrested with her for renting a room in the apartment where the daycare operated.

According to EFE, the police are looking for Méndez’s husband. The man was apparently captured on video leaving the daycare center – which had been in operation since January last year – with two full shopping bags on the day of the incident, last Friday.

Fentanyl, 50 times more powerful than heroin, is causing ‘the worst drug crisis in American history’.

On Thursday, September 21, 2023, Semana reported that authorities “identified that not only was there a significant amount of fentanyl at the site, but drug manufacturing was also being conducted at the site.”

What happened is very serious. “We accuse these people of poisoning four babies and killing one of them because they were running a drug operation out of a daycare center. A daycare center: a place where children should be safe, not surrounded by a drug that can kill them in an instant,” said federal prosecutor Damian Williams, according to EFE.

Fentanyl and other drugs hidden on the daycare floor

During a raid on the daycare, a kilo of fentanyl was found under a mat where the children had recently slept, Detective Joseph Kenny said, according to BBC Mundo.

Semana announced on Thursday the 21st of this month that not only fentanyl, but also other narcotics were present at the location.

The Big Apple Police filed a report at the scene. “A large quantity of fentanyl, other narcotics and drug paraphernalia were recovered from the drop floor in the daycare playground.”

A “secret door” at the Divino Niño daycare center, where a child died of an overdose last week, hid a compartment containing fentanyl, other drugs and processing aids.

What is found is new. Univision reported: “Investigators had already found a kilogram of fentanyl on the carpets where the minors played, along with a device for pressing drugs into bricks for sale, according to court records.”

The new raid, the news channel said, took place when it became known “the existence of a hidden space under the floor.” The photos “show more than a dozen plastic bags filled with dust.”

This is terrible, said the father of the deceased child

Nicholas Feliz Dominici, of Dominican descent, would turn two years old in November.

His father, Otoniel Feliz, affected by this tragedy, told Univision that he hopes for justice. “Whether guilty or not, the real perpetrator knows he must pay,” El Universo published.

Nicholas’ playmates, who survived fentanyl exposure, “were subjected to blood and urine tests to detect the presence of the drug,” Univisión noted.

According to the media, after a urine analysis of one of the minors, “the presence of fentanyl was also confirmed.” (JO)
