The President of the United States, Joe Bidenon Wednesday dismissed the impeachment inquiry against him that Republican lawmakers in the House of Representatives had opened, accusing them of trying to force a government shutdown.

“I don’t know why, but they want to accuse me. In my opinion, they want to shut down the governmentthe president said at a fundraising event in McLean, Virginia.

“I have a job to do (…) I have to face the problems that Americans face”, he emphasized.

Today’s words were Biden’s first statements on the issue since House Speaker Kevin McCarthy ordered the opening of an impeachment inquiry into the president.

The goal of the Republican caucus, at least at this stage, is to obtain bank records and other documents from the president and his son Hunter Biden.

Since taking control of the House of Representatives after the midterm elections in November 2022, Republicans have brought forward a series of investigations into alleged business dealings between Biden’s son and his family with China.

In a report filed in July, opposition lawmakers on the House Oversight and Accountability Committee said They accused the president’s family of receiving money from a Chinese energy company.

The committee released a series of bank documents showing that a Biden family associate, Rob Walker, He allegedly used his company to transfer money he received from a Chinese energy company to four members of Biden’s family.

The payments were made to Biden’s son Hunter; his sister-in-law, Hallie; his brother James and a third unidentified “Biden,” according to documents published by opposition lawmakers.

Impeachment resolutions must be ratified by that chamber’s plenarywhere it is not yet clear that McCarthy has the support of moderate Republicans in his caucus.

If successful, it would later reach the Senate, which has the power to conduct these types of trials. Because the Senate is under democratic control, the chance of success is limited. (JO)
