Last Tuesday, technology company Apple presented its latest news. One of these was the iPhone 15, which will have four versions with brighter screens, more advanced lenses and more advanced computing capabilities.
Another notable change is the debut of the new action button that replaces the classic mute switch. While this feature may be retained, other capabilities are now being added, such as being able to quickly open the camera or flashlight and even executing previously configured shortcuts.
Finally, the company gave in to European regulations that required it to build a universal charging port into its phone. This way the iPhone gets a USB-C point.
“USB-C has become a universally accepted standard. “That’s why we’re bringing USB-C to the iPhone 15,” said Kaiann Drance, vice president of iPhone marketing, at the launch event for Apple’s latest mobile phone.
Why consider buying an iPhone 15? What is attractive about this model?
This is not the kind of technological innovation that the Apple company is proud of, but a Brussels law forces electronics manufacturers to equip new smartphones, tablets and cameras with a USB-C connector by the end of 2024.
“Now the same cable can charge your Mac (computer), your iPad (tablet), your iPhone and even your second generation AirPods pro (wireless headphones),” Drance added. “If the battery of your AirPods or Apple Watch is low, you can charge them directly from your iPhone.”
The integration of the USB-C port is a small revolution for Apple’s ecosystem of products and services, which is difficult to integrate with other systems thanks to ports that use exclusive technology.
“It will bother many Apple users (…) but they will get used to it, they will have no other choice,” said Avi Greengart of consultancy Techsponential.
One of the advantages of its use is the reduction in the number of charging systems, since one cable allows multiple devices to be used, both data transmission and compatibility.
The company retained its Lightning technology, which it patented, which consisted of an eight-pin cable that was built into the iPhone 5 11 years ago.
This was also incorporated into other accessories and is part of the headache users will have to solve.
The company has already started marketing adapters. The product description states “the USB-C to Lightning adapter “It allows you to connect your Lightning accessories to a USB-C enabled iPhone or iPad, so you can easily deliver three key functions (charging, data and audio) with a single adapter.”
The price is $29. (JO)
