What other companies were hurt by Amazon’s 7+ hour crash?

As Amazon slowly comes back online after a seven-hour global outage that took swaths of the internet with it, others have been hit. Alexa, Ring, Disney +, Tinder, Venmo, DoorDash, and Prime Video. With this drop, Christmas deliveries on Amazon are expected to take even longer in territories where online orders for almost immediate delivery are normal in this last month of the year.

Some companies using Amazon Web Services, such as Canvas and Paramount +, found that the services were restored around 5pm ET, but many sites are still down due to the crash.

Three delivery service partners said around 2 p.m. that one Amazon app used to communicate with delivery drivers and track packages was not working. This left the drivers of the vans who were supposed to be inactive and without communication with the company. had to deliver packages, according to Bloomberg. It’s unclear how many drivers the outage has affected.

Despite crippling blackouts that hit Amazon’s business, the company’s shares closed up 2.8 percent Tuesday afternoon. Some warehouse workers reported that all Amazon facilities were temporarily shut down due to outages and posted photos on Reddit showing what appear to be stationary automated shelves, according to The Verge.

Amazon employees have reported system outages from coast to coast, including in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Florida, Illinois, Texas, Georgia, Kansas, Indiana, Michigan, Arizona and other states. (I)
