Pursuant to the act of July 14, mDowód in the mObywatel application is equivalent to a traditional, physical ID card. At least in most situations, because we still won’t use the app in selected places, e.g. most banks. However, the situation will soon change here as well.
PKO Bank Polski has started to accept the mObywatel application
The clients of PKO Bank Polski can use the mObywatel application to confirm their identity as the first. “From today, our customers will conveniently confirm their identity in branches using mDowodu in the application,” the bank wrote on the X portal on Monday.
Customers who want to use the mDowodem identity confirmation must log in to the application and scan the QR code located at the advisor’s desk. Then the bank employee will receive confirmation of the customer’s data. “During a visit to the branch, a customer who will want to confirm his identity via the mObywatel 2.0 application will be asked by the advisor to log in to the application on his smartphone, then scan the QR code that will be made available at the advisor’s stand. After scanning the code, the advisor will receive a confirmation in the system his data, thanks to which the customer will be able to continue the service” – explains the bank
From Friday, you no longer have to take your wallet to the banks. All you need is a smartphone
PKO BP explains that using a smartphone we will settle every matter at the bank and confirm identity in the same way as with an ID card and passport. Of course, it must be equipped with the new version of the mObywatel 2.0 application. The mDevice located there is not a digital version of a physical ID, but a separate, equivalent document.
PKO BP was the first bank to introduce such a solution, a few days before the others. On September 1, the obligation to accept mDowodów comes into force, which will apply to all banks, companies and financial institutions in our country. From September, we will not be able to use the mObywatel application only when obtaining a physical document and when crossing the Polish border (e.g. at the airport).
