9to5Google: Android is getting a quick eSIM setup

Google will offer users of Android-smartphones the function of quickly porting a phone number. This is reported by the publication 9to5Google.

Media journalists studied the code of the new version of Android, in which they found the function of simplified transfer of the eSIM tariff from one smartphone to another. In this case, the eSIM number will be unlinked from the old phone and assigned to the new one.

The authors of the portal reminded that iOS has a similar eSIM tariff transfer function, but it works via Bluetooth. “Android seems to be taking a different approach,” the journalists noted. According to them, now the process of transferring the eSIM tariff cannot be called simple: when activating a new device, users need to contact the telecom operator.

The material says that the new feature will help popularize eSIM on Android smartphones. Journalists have suggested that in the future, phone users will be able to completely abandon physical SIM cards.

According to the authors, the audience of Android-based devices is not ready for eSIM technology, since virtual SIM cards are mainly used in expensive phones.
