The official agency RIA Novosti has announced that the head of the Russian Aerospace Forces, Sergei Surovikin, has been fired and will be replaced by Victor Afzalov.
“The head of the Russian Aerospace Forces, Sergei Sirovikin, has been relieved of his duties,” the agency said, citing an official source.

General in charge of Russian troops in Ukraine, associated with the mercenary uprising of the Wagner group
Surovikin, who was also no longer deputy commander of the Russian armed forces in Ukraine, disappeared from the public eye after the failed uprising led by Yevgueni Prigozhin, head of the Wagner group, who at the time acknowledged that he personally, along with said general, had operation set up. to take the city of Bakhmut, something the mercenaries accomplished last May.
Prigozhin criticized Gerasimov and Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, assuring that his men headed by Surovikin would never have had problems with the supply of equipment and ammunition, for which he blamed the first two on several occasions.
On the night of June 23-24, when Prigozhin had just called for the overthrow of the Russian military command and his mercenaries were on their way to Moscow, Surovikin appeared in a video with his shaved skull, martial air and a pistol on his right thigh.
The “Butcher of Syria” or “General Armaggedon”: this is the general who now leads the Russian army
“I address the fighters and leaders of the Wagner group (…) We are of the same blood, we are warriors. I ask that they stop,” he said slowly, his unshaven face staring into the camera. “Before it’s too late,” he insisted.
The Kremlin never confirmed the general’s arrest for supporting the mutiny, which was also refuted by his own daughter.
Surovikin was known as the Armageddon General and the Butcher of Syria for the ferocity of his operations. (JO)
