The Polish airport appeals to travelers. mCitizen is not a passport. A smartphone is not enough

Lodz Airport appeals to travelers to take the appropriate documents when going on holiday. The airport reminds you that mID in the application or a driving license is not enough. “There is a state border at the airport,” writes the port on Facebook.

In mid-June, President Andrzej Duda signed a law according to which a digital ID card is equivalent to a physical one. This means that we can use it on the same basis as a plastic document almost everywhere in Poland, but not at the airport. And even more so outside our country.

mID is not a passport. Not enough at the airport

The Lodz airport reminds about this, appealing to travelers to take appropriate and important documents with them when wanting to go on holiday. As Lodz Airport writes in a Facebook post, in recent days it has happened that passengers arrived at the airport with an invalid ID card or passport, or without any documents at all. Instead, at the border control, they pulled out a smartphone with the mObywatel application.

The airport reminds travelers that when you go on holiday abroad, you cross the border. The mDowod application located in the app will actually help to settle the matter, e.g. at the post office, but it is not a document suitable for crossing the border, and even more so it is not respected outside the territory of Poland and on the borders of other countries.

Recently, it has happened several times that passengers of charter flights came to the airport with an invalid ID card or passport, or without a document at all, thinking that the ID card in the mObywatel application is enough. We remind you once again. There is a state border at the airport. We can exceed it by presenting only a valid ID card or passport

– writes the Lodz airport.

As Polish citizens, we have the right to enter the territory of the Schengen countries on the basis of an ID card (valid of course), but only in its physical, plastic edition. To travel outside these countries (e.g. to travel agencies popular among customers in Egypt or Turkey), it is necessary to go through passport control and present your passport. The Lodz airport also reminds you that we will not cross the border at the airport on the basis of a driving license or any other document with a photo.
