Described a new way to hack the iPhone

Appleinsider: iPhone learned to hack using fake airplane mode

Attackers have learned how to deceive iPhone users using fake airplane mode on the device. This is reported by Appleinsider.

The journalists referred to Jamf Threat Labs analysts, who were the first to talk about the problem. Turning on airplane mode on an Apple smartphone turns off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and cellular coverage, which can completely disconnect the device from networks, experts say. However, it is possible to activate fake airplane mode on an iPhone and then covertly transfer data from the device to the server and vice versa.

According to experts, hackers can activate a dangerous setting through SpringBoard and CommCenter. After that, it seems to the user that he has turned on airplane mode, as he sees animations for turning off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and cellular communications. However, in reality, the device remains connected to the networks. In describing the new hacking method, experts noted that the fake airplane mode can mislead the user that his iPhone is disconnected from the networks and is safe.

The authors noted that a personal smartphone should not be passed into the hands of strangers. Jamf Threat Labs couldn’t say for sure if Apple is aware of the problem of fake airplane mode.

In mid-May, it became known that the iPhone has a vulnerability that allows malware to be used even when the smartphone is turned off. Security specialists contacted Apple for clarification, but did not receive a prompt response from the company.
