The U.S. government announced in June 2023 the renewal of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designations for citizens of El Salvador, Honduras, and Nicaragua.

To date, 16 countries have been designated for the above-mentioned migration allowance. In addition to the three American countries mentioned, there are Haiti and Venezuela.

How to know the status of your TPS or other immigration case

The steps to find out the status of your process are offered by the usa.gov site:

People who have started an application or petition with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) can check online or by phone If there is any progress in your process.

By Internet: use the “Online case status” tool.

To know whether there are any news or changes in the handling of your procedure, you only need the receipt number. The receipt number is one unique number of 13 characters which you will find in your application or petition.

Who is eligible for TPS?

To qualify for TPS, remember that according to the USCIS, the person:

New applicants who are late in applying should see the ‘Late submission of application’ section below

When applying or re-registering for TPS, the person must report all absences from the United States to USCIS since the CPP and CR dates. USCIS will determine whether the exception applies to your case.
