PlayStation 5 went on sale in November 2020, so it has already aged a bit in this form. The end of this year seems to be the perfect time to show the refreshed Slim edition, especially since the PS5 was criticized for its excessively large dimensions. It was similar in the case of the previous generation of consoles, when the PS4 Slim and Pro versions hit the market three years after the launch of PlayStation 4, i.e. in the fall of 2016.
PlayStation 5 Slim in photo and video. The drive is disconnected
Sony is still silent, and the network is flooded with more and more information about the new version of the equipment. The most important novelty is, of course, to reduce the dimensions and weight of the device while maintaining the current performance of the PS5. The Slim version would also be available only in the Digital version, i.e. without a Blu-ray drive, and those willing could buy it separately (and connect it to the console with a cable). Such a step would allow to reduce production costs and (perhaps) the price of the equipment. In addition, the manufacturer may also reportedly opt for a few smaller modifications.
Now, materials have hit the web that seem to confirm some of this information. In the photo – which was originally posted on one of the Chinese forums – we see a fragment of the console, which seems a bit slimmer, but the design strongly resembles the original PlayStation 5. The difference from the current version of the console, however, is the cutout in the upper part of the housing, which is difficult to overlook.
The appearance of the console matches what we can see in a short video that hit the web at a similar time. Here, too, we find a new cutout on the sides of the device, and the console in the upper part seems a bit thinner. However, the protuberance at the bottom suggests that the device comes with a side panel with a protruding Blu-ray drive. The video suggests that this is how you can connect an additional drive to the digital version. It is also worth noting that one USB type A socket has disappeared from the front of the PS5 housing, which has been replaced with a second USB type C port.
Sony is still silent. Even Microsoft expects the launch of the PS5 Slim
Interestingly, even … Microsoft is convinced that the premiere of PlayStation 5 Slim will take place. During one of the court battles regarding the acquisition of Activision Blizzard Ba, Microsoft even revealed that the Slim version will – in his opinion – cost $ 399.99.
In recent days, made in 5 nm technology (and not 6 nm). Using it means less power consumption and lower temperatures. Perhaps the Japanese ordered it, e.g. for the Slim version, which is supposed to be slimmer, so naturally it may be a bit less efficient at dissipating heat. We’ll find out when Sony finally reveals the secret about the future of PS5.
