Citizens of 13 countries, including Argentina, Costa Rica, Panama and Uruguay, can now take advantage of Canada’s eTA program if they so wish, which will “eliminate the need to apply for a visa to enter the country”.

The information shared by Univisión adds that “it only applies to travelers from these countries who have held a Canadian visa within the past 10 years or who currently hold a valid non-immigrant visa from the United States.”

An Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) “is an entry requirement for visa-exempt foreigners traveling to Canada by air.

An eTA is electronically linked to the traveler’s passport,” the canada.ca site explains.

They emphasize that an eTA “does not guarantee entry to Canada. When you arrive in the country, a border officer will ask you to see your passport and other documents.”

How to apply for the eTA Canada

Applying for an eTA is done “only” on the official website of the Canadian government (canada.ca).

They suggest to the traveler that it is best “to obtain an eTA before booking your flight to Canada”.

On that site they indicate that it is “a simple online procedure that only takes a few minutes”.

Most applicants receive their eTA approval (via email) within minutes.

They clarify that “some applications may take several days to complete if you are asked to submit supporting documents.”

According to the aforementioned news chain, “the person with the eTA document is only required to enter their passport and payment details in a short online application. Minutes later, the approval arrives by email.”
