The Honduran territory has been in decline in recent decades a transit point for migrantsespecially Cubans and Africans, who cross the countries of Central America to reach the United States.

So far in 2023, more than 161,700 migrants, mostly from Venezuela, have been intercepted in Honduras for entering the country illegally, according to figures from the National Institute of Migration (INM). Of the total number of migrants who entered Honduras this year, according to official statistics, 22,104 are Ecuadorian and 3,064 are from Senegal.
