How is Viaplay’s shareholding structure highly fragmented, and so far its largest shareholder has been Norges Bank (9.7 percent of shares). Now it is Canal+. And this may mean that the French want to have some control over the fate of Viaplay’s assets or at least try to take over some of its sports broadcasting rights in Poland and other non-Scandinavian countries. According to the service, there are now three options at stake – selling the entire business, withdrawing or finding a partner.

The withdrawal from some countries is the result of the ongoing restructuring of Viaplay. The platform has recently struggled with a difficult financial situation. On Thursday, it announced that it would lay off as much as 25 percent of its employees. all employees to reduce operating costs.
