Elon Musk caused quite a buzz by presenting the Cybertruck in November 2019. The prototype of the car shown at that time looked like a work taken out of a science fiction movie. Tesla’s electric pickup truck was supposed to be practical and bulletproof because – – it’s “super cool”. Tesla planned that the first copies of the car would reach customers at the end of 2021, but the date was postponed due to component shortage. It wasn’t until July 2022 that Elon Musk committed that his pick-ups would hit the roads in the second half of 2023.
The Cybertruck has finally rolled out of the Tesla factory. There were quality issues
As he writes, broken supply chains may not have been the only reason for delays in Cybertruck production. In January 2022, documents came to light suggesting that pre-production pick-ups had a number of build quality issues, as well as defects related to brakes, drivetrain, suspension and seals. As a reminder, during the presentation of the car in November 2019 Elon Musk tried to demonstrate the strength of the vehicle’s bulletproof windows. This one, however, broke after being hit by a metal ball.
Good news for Tesla customers. They’ll get their Cybertrucks eventually
On Saturday, Tesla tweeted a photo of the first Cybertruck and the workers who built it. The vehicle rolled out of the company’s Texas factory, which is a relatively new facility that opened in April 2022. Tesla, however, did not disclose whether the first production copy will go to one of the customers or will remain the property of the company.
However, seeing the first ready Cybertruck is undoubtedly good news for customers who have been waiting for their armored pick-ups for the fourth year. It seems that – as announced last year – the production of these cars has finally started in full swing. Earlier, Elon Musk declared that Cybertrucks would reach the first customers in the third quarter of this year, i.e. in September at the latest. The specific Tesla truck – although it is mainly addressed to Americans who love pick-ups – has sold over 1.5 million copies by November 2022. Each orderer had to pay a deposit of $100.
