The Federation Council urged Russians to urgently change passwords from social networks

Senator Sheikin urged to change passwords from social networks due to a large data leak of Russians

Russians urgently need to change passwords in social networks, preventing their repetition on different services. RIA Novosti was told about this by the Deputy Chairman of the Council for the Development of the Digital Economy under the Federation Council, Senator Artem Sheikin.

According to him, a large amount of personal data leaked into the network.

“I urge everyone to urgently change passwords and make them different in various services, when creating new ones, do not use simple words and short combinations, make it at least 12 characters long,” the senator said.

According to Sheikin, companies take personal data of users lightly. According to the expert, there is a high probability that passwords as a result of leaks can be freely available and used by fraudsters.

The senator emphasized that attackers, having once gained access to the food ordering service, can pick up passwords and logins for services with important personal information.

“It is recommended to regularly (every month) change passwords, as well as use separate and different passwords for each account,” says the recommendations from Kaspersky Lab, which Sheikin had previously requested from the company’s experts.

Earlier, expert Vladimir Ulyanov said that one of the main data protection mistakes that Russians make is creating the same passwords for the Gosuslugi service, an online bank account and email. According to him, classically it is believed that the password should be at least 12 characters with upper and lower case, it should contain not only letters of the Latin alphabet, but also special characters, numbers.

The expert also advised not to record passwords on digital media due to the risk of data leakage, while he called it acceptable to write down passwords on paper.
