Twitter started sharing with content creators the money generated by ads when it appears in the comments on their tweets, a measure that the social network’s owner, Elon Musk, announced five months ago but had not yet implemented.
The move has already been applauded by some of the beneficiaries: “I love Twitter,” Billy Markus, the co-creator of the Dogecoin cryptocurrency, tweeted this Thursday, along with a screenshot showing that the social network will pay him $ in the near future. 37,050 will give days. .
Among other accounts that have already received notifications of incoming deposits, there is the case of Brian Krassenstein, a technology journalist, who claims to have received more than $24,000, as well as Benny Johnson, also a journalist, who was announced a payment of more than $9,000.

Musk noted that the initial payments, which reward creators for ads appearing in replies to their tweets, would be cumulative since he first announced the program in February.
To access these payments users must be subscribed to Twitter Blue (which gets paid), have a Stripe account to pay those commissions, and have more than 5 million tweet impressions per month for the last 3 months.
However, the social network has not disclosed how it calculates the percentage it pays creators.
Twitter offers two video monetization programs, Strengthen Pre-roll And Strengthen sponsorship.
Since Musk took over the reins of the social network last year, Twitter has lost a lot of ad revenue as the businessman’s ongoing controversies and changing criteria have scared off advertisers.
According to Forbes, the platform’s ad sales reached $88 million in the US, down 59% from April 2022.
With this measure, Musk also tries to retain its users, especially the most popular, so that they do not go to competitors such as the new social network Meta threadswhich opened last week and has already reached a record number of downloads of over 108 million users.
Payment to content creators already takes place on other platforms, such as YouTube, which splits revenue with youtubers for the advertising impact generated by their videos. With this, users with high views manage to collect large sums of money while creating more content that generates traffic for the platform.
