Desperation – there is no other word – led a father to think of nothing but to save his daughters when they were swept away by the currents of a lake in the United States.

The girls, ages 12 and 13, enjoyed a sunny Saturday afternoon by a Maine lake with their father, Henry Brooks, and a brother.

One of the girls had fallen “into the deepest part of the pond near the confluence with a local river”, prompting the other to rescue her, but both lost strength and nerve when they got stuck in the water.

The events, Telemundo News reports, took place last weekend at Seven Tree pond, in the town of Union.

Hearing them screaming for help, Henry Brooks, 46, and his son became alarmed and both rushed out to save the girls.

Brooks, unlike his eldest son, was unable to put on his life jacket. The detail marked the tragedy to come.

The 27-year-old man went to the deep end where the sisters were in danger and was able to save them. Unfortunately, the Excelsior media reports, he did not see or find his father when he ‘looked around’.

The son was able to swim to where the sisters were and return them to a nearby pier, but when he returned to get his father, he couldn’t find him.

The area was taken over by divers and rescuers, who reported the discovery of Brooks’ body around 7:30 p.m. (7:30 p.m.) Saturday, July 8, 2023, Noticias Telemundo said.

“It was about 50 feet from shore,” the security service specified about three hours after Brooks lost his life trying to save the lives of his youngest daughters.
