Apple released a buggy update for iPhone and iPad. Now he withdraws it. There is a way

Apple released a new update for the iPhone, which was stopped after a few hours. All because the update causes problems with the operation of e.g. Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. How do I get rid of a defective patch?

This doesn’t happen very often. The update for iPhones, iPads and MacBooks released on Monday causes significant problems with the operation of third-party applications. The situation turned out to be so serious that Apple decided to suspend the possibility of updating devices for the time being.

The iPhone update was supposed to fix the bugs. And it causes problems

Specifically, it is about quick patches in the field of security, i.e. the so-called. RSR (Rapid Security Response) for iOS 16.5.1, iPadOS 16.5.1 and macOS Ventura 13.4.1. The update appeared on Apple smartphones, tablets and computers on Monday afternoon (Polish time), and on Tuesday morning the company decided to suspend the possibility of updating. This is due to bugs reported by users who have already installed the faulty patch.

Some third-party apps – primarily Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Zoom, according to user reports – have started displaying a warning that they do not support the Safari browser. As , RSR was supposed to fix a vulnerability in WebKit, i.e. the engine used, among others, in via Safari, but it broke something by the way.

The troublesome fix can no longer be downloaded to iPhone, iPad and MacBook, but people who decided to update earlier may have problems now. However, the patches can be easily removed. In the case of iOS, just go to the device settings, then click “General”, “Device” and select the version of the operating system. A red “Remove Security Update” button will appear below the software version information. Soon, Apple should deal with the problem and make the patch available again. This time it’s correct.
