Google has decided to take more action in the fight against unwanted phone calls. In his smartphones from the Pixel series, he is testing a function that will completely change the rules. Each user will get their own assistant who will answer calls for them. The novelties were noticed in the beta version of the Pixel Call Assist application, which is a distinguishing feature of Pixel smartphones from Google.
Google has a way with telemarketers
As 9to5Google writes, application users have just received a much more extensive Call Screen section in the application from Google. In the new version, they will be able to choose the degree of protection against unwanted calls on a three-level scale – “block only known spam”, “filter suspicious calls and reject spam” and “filter unknown numbers and reject spam”. The flagship function of this section, however, is to automatically check the caller’s intentions.
Artificial intelligence is supposed to detect suspicious numbers and answer calls on behalf of the user. The machine will inform the telemarketer about the fact that the owner of the device uses the function that filters unwanted calls and will ask about the purpose of the call. When the Google machine determines the purpose of the caller, it will forward this information to the Google Assistant, which (already in the form of a text notification) will inform the user about the whole matter. It will then be up to the smartphone owner to decide whether to answer the call or reject and block the phone number. Telemarketers will therefore not have an easy task, because they will have to convince Google’s artificial intelligence to convince the user to answer the call.
For now, it is not known when the feature will be available to a wider audience. It is known, however, that it should appear on Google Pixel 6 and all newer smartphones. Currently, it is only available to testers and only in the United States. However, let’s hope that it will also appear in other markets after that. Who knows, maybe in the future Google will decide to introduce a similar feature on third-party Android smartphones as well.
