For Jesús Sarmiento, a humble farmer, life came to a standstill. He was left without a family due to a bad move of nature.
“My God, my wife, my two children and my mother died, I was left alone in this world,” he told local media with great pain, when he saw how his modest house was walled by a hill.
The tragic landslide occurred in Boconó, a town in the state of Trujillo, in the Andes of Venezuela.

How did this tragedy happen?
It rained last Wednesday, July 5 in the Andean entities and Sarmiento was “to see some animals”.
When he returned to his home, in Mosquey, a parish in Boconó, he found the most devastating scene: when the hill collapsed, Jesús Sarmiento’s wife, his mother and their two children were trapped inside the house.
The victims were identified as Érika Alexandra Fernández Sánchez, 29, grandmother Ninfa Briceño, 80; and children Jesús and Erianny Antonella, aged 7 and 5.
Alejandro García, mayor of the municipality of Boconó, quoted in Notiboconó, expressed his solidarity with Sarmiento by expressing: “What happened today (Wednesday) is unfortunate, we are going to give him all our support, we are going to bear the funeral costs on us to take. “

Venezuelans have been warned of the passage of 65 tropical waves since last May.
The Caribbean country, the EFE agency recalls, suffered a period of heavy rainfall in 2022, which caused damage of varying intensity to some 14,000 homes – some with several families – and left at least 94 dead.
Last year, the country witnessed another tragedy with the landslide in Las Tejerías, in Aragua.
