A school play ended with an emergency episode. A group of children sang to the audience and a candle caused a huge fright and left one of the minors with severe burns. The situation was aired in a court that has just fined the education center £35,000 (approximately $44,514).
For Christmas 2019, the children dressed up in their best outfits to celebrate Christmas with carols from Our Lady of the Annunciation Church in Croydon, South London.
Before the presentation, at least 60 children had lit candles in plastic cups and one tripped over the other and everyone panicked.
The candle fell on that other minor, seven years old, who, according to Semana, was wearing “a sheep’s suit made of cotton.” The outfit quickly caught fire, leaving burns.
Emergency and burns after the child acted
Two teachers tried to put out the flames that consumed the costume with their hands.
The parents were waiting for their son to leave the church when people started running and screaming, which the father described as feeling like “a bomb had gone off”, ITV reported.
Both assured that they found their son “screaming” in a bucket of water in the church, the aforementioned medium reported.
Minutes later, the child was airlifted to a hospital.
Semana described him as having “burns to his neck, face, torso and arms”. The parents said they were left with “permanent psychiatric injuries”.

The demand
The minor’s parents, the Mirror reported, have filed a separate lawsuit.
“The father has claimed more than £100,000 (over $127,000) while the wife has claimed £50,000 (over $63,000) for her personal injury.”
Due to the events of more than three years ago, the jury found the establishment “responsible for not guaranteeing the health and safety of the people who work there”.
The school was eventually sanctioned and, according to Semana, the Southwark Crown Court ruled that it must scrap £35,000 (approximately $44,514).
The paper reported that Judge Phillip Bartle, KC, has fined the school £35,000 and will pay additional costs of £25,970 (approximately $33,031.24).
In the words of the Supreme Court, “neither the educational institution nor the people responsible for the activity considered the risk of setting fire to a child’s clothing. The conditions were neither suitable nor sufficient to light candles, there were 60 children walking with 60 unprotected llamas”.

The future of the child
The parents revealed in court how much they believe their son will suffer from the effects of the burns. They assured that the boy, now 10 years old, has been in hospital for 50 days and has undergone multiple surgeries.
Among the parents’ shocking statements in Mirror, they published:
He has lost confidence, has become irritable and angry.
Parents of the minor
“I protect my son from every look of a stranger. I think of him growing old in such a cruel world,” they said.
“He will never be the same again. Hospitals are now part of his life. Extensive routines and physiotherapy”.
“He was a happy kid. I never thought I would find myself in this unimaginable situation. I thought the worst: I thought I was going to die.”
