announced that it has developed a technology that will halve the weight, size and production costs of batteries for electric cars. This could mean significant progress for the industry – the Japanese company is working on the release of advanced semiconductor batteries in 2025, the so-called solid-state, which are supposed to be better than current liquid-based batteries.
A breakthrough in the production of car batteries
Toyota said it has simplified the fabrication of the materials needed to make these. The company believes that this will drastically reduce the charging time and increase the range of electricians. This applies to both liquid-based and solid-state batteries.
Toyota estimates that thanks to the new technology it will be possible to create a battery with a range of 1.2 thousand kilometers. km, which would allow (with a reserve) to get from Warsaw to Szczecin and back. This is about twice as much as the average in the best cars. What’s more, charging such a battery would take only 10 minutes. The production of new batteries would start in 2027 – who was the first to provide this information.
Toyota stock up
Experts have long said that solid-state batteries could be the holy grail for their production, but until now they have been very expensive. Toyota, thanks to its discovery, can significantly gain on the market. It is the second largest car manufacturer in the world after Volkswagen, but it entered the electric revolution with a delay. The new battery may even allow them to catch up with Tesla. Toyota shares have jumped 13% since the announcement of a breakthrough in battery production.
