FT: Apple will not be able to release a million units of Vision Pro glasses due to problems
Apple has adjusted its plans for the production of augmented reality glasses. This was reported by the Financial Times (FT).
According to the publication, the corporation was forced to drastically adjust the plans for the production of Vision Pro. The company previously planned to release a million units of AR glasses in 2024, but then due to problems they lowered the forecast to 400,000.
Two sources close to Apple and its partner Luxshare noted that in 2024 the corporation will be able to put no more than 400,000 augmented reality headsets on the market. Industry sources also noted that Luxshare is currently the sole assembler of the new Apple device. In addition, two Chinese suppliers told the FT that Tim Cook’s firm ordered components from them that would be enough to produce only 130-150 thousand units of Vision Pro.
The main obstacle in the production of headsets was the difficulty in creating OLED displays, which have a complex design. According to insiders, Apple was unhappy with suppliers who were unable to produce a large number of displays without defects.
Earlier, Bloomberg columnist Mark Gurman said that Apple’s augmented reality glasses were too heavy. According to the specialist, the company has planned to release a special strap for Vision Pro.
