Four people were killed and four others injured in a mass shooting this Monday evening in the city of Philadelphia, in a new chapter of gun violence in the United States, local media reported.

This has been confirmed by Philadelphia police spokesman Miguel Torres AFP that there were several victims with gunshot wounds, but gave no number or details.

The Philadelphia Enquirer, CNN and others reported that a suspect in the shooting, which took place in the eastern neighborhood of Kingsessing, had been apprehended.

The Enquirer said police detained a man wearing a body armor and seized a rifle and revolver, as well as ammunition magazines in an alley.

The publication described the crime scene as extensive, with several injured in various locations.

Two people were killed and 28 injured in a shooting at a street party in Baltimore this weekend.

The United States has recorded 339 mass shootings so far this year, according to the organization Gun Violence Archive, which classifies a shooting as an act of armed violence that kills or injures at least four people.
