A dog and cat shelter in the United States is looking for volunteers to spend the night of July 4 with the animals because of the roar of fireworks and rockets that will be launched to commemorate another year of Independence Day.
In a Facebook post, the Humane Society shelter in Englewood, Florida, is offering burgers and hot dogs, as well as drinks, to those who come.
The same shelter invited the community to take in one of its dogs and cats for the night for the same purpose.
“We all enjoy the Independence Day festivities, but often our pets don’t,” the Humane Society says in the post.
One of the many recommendations that various organizations make to Americans to avoid accidents and emergencies on the night of the 4th of July is to keep pets on a leash and if possible under cover so they don’t run off and get lost for fear of the noise from fireworks and rockets.
The Miami-Dade County Fire Department today recalled the danger of improper handling of fireworks, which “can cause serious fires and burns,” and warned of the importance of proper barbecue use.
According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), each July 4, “fireworks cause an estimated 19,500 fires in the U.S. and $105 million in direct property damage.”
