Hackers have developed a blackmail virus for Android smartphones
A new threat has appeared for Android-based smartphones — the Rasket Trojan. This virus can access the personal data of the owner of the gadget, and then blackmail and extort money. The head of the Russian research center of Kaspersky Lab, Dmitry Galov, told what protection methods can be applied to protect your phone and yourself. The words of the expert are quoted by Izvestia.
The malware is distributed under the guise of adult dating or chat services, radar-detector apps, or lottery apps. When the Trojan is activated on a device, it gains access to photos, videos, and documents, as well as messages and contacts. The authors of the Trojan threaten to make the compromised data public unless the owner of the gadget pays them 5,000 rubles. But to do this, as Galov warned, is not worth it.
It is noted that the functionality of the virus allows it to be equally attributed to extortionists, SMS Trojans and banking malware. “Thus, the attackers are trying to get the maximum benefit,” the expert notes.
It’s quite easy to understand that Rasket “settled” in a smartphone, because the goal of the attackers is precisely to tell the owner of the device about themselves and demand money. To protect a smartphone, according to Galov, you can only use an antivirus.
Earlier, Deputy General Director of T1 Anton Yakimov, in an interview with Lenta.ru, said that the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) poses a danger to users of social networks. In particular, with their help, attackers can create programs that allow you to guess passwords for other people’s accounts.
