The case of a teacher in Italy has been on the lips of many people since the “record” in absences from work she has known.

Called “the ghost teacher”, Cinzia Paolina De Lio is singled out for missing 20 of the 24 years of service she “worked” in an educational institution.

Due to her long absence, the Italian judiciary has fired her, reports Noticias Caracol. The situation has led to a “mess” on the networks – like the one his last name refers to – as an intense debate erupted on social networks, loaded with criticism as expected.

The teacher’s absence

In the Spanish media El Economista, they explained that Cinzia Paolina De Lio is a high school teacher who practically did not go to class either after graduation or in the next decade.

The Economist specified that “he was absent for the first 10 years of his professional career, accruing an average of between 40 and 180 days off per year over the next 14 years.”

De Lio, 56, is said to be teaching philosophy and literature to students at an institution in the city of Chioggia, Venice.

According to La Razón, De Lio was accused by the students before the school board of “arbitrarily assigning grades, improvising in class, and coming to class without books.”

With such a serious indication, management requested an evaluation of Cinzia De Lio from higher authorities.

In response, the Ministry of Education sent an official who evaluated her for three days and confirmed the conclusion what the students said: “their pedagogical methods are incompatible with teaching.”

There was no other way out: the resignation came, which took effect in 2017.

The teacher appealed and won!

De Lio knows how to take his time and what followed created more controversy. The teacher “presented a legal recourse to avoid being fired”. And what happened? He won it!

The woman reportedly defended “her academic freedom” before a labor tribunal in Venice.

In the court hearing the case, they determined that the three days of supervision were little “to assess her quality as a teacher and to justify her dismissal”.

The Ministry of Education did not sit still and appealed the court’s ruling.

Another court – the Cassazione – analyzed the thorny issue and decided to annul the first sentence. He confirmed De Lio’s dismissal because of his “permanent and absolute incompetence” when it came to teaching, La Razón reported.
