Twitter posts as long as a book. Elon Musk increases the limit to 25,000 characters. It smacks of absurdity

For years, one of the distinguishing features of Twitter from other social media platforms was the character limit for entries. A single tweet could be up to 140 characters long, which forced users to formulate opinions concisely and precisely. In 2017, the company decided to increase this limit to 280 characters, which was criticized by the Twitter community. So much so that one of the co-creators of the platform, Jack Dorsey, tried to smooth things over.

The tearing of Twitter’s robes after increasing the character limit from 140 to 280 sounds ridiculous in the face of what happened to the popular social media platform after billionaire Elon Musk took over the company.

Twitter is increasing the character limit for posts again. 10,000 characters is not enough?

Recall that one of Musk’s first decisions (not counting the dismissal of more than half of the employees). In addition to the characteristic “blue badge”, Twitter Blue gives users of the platform:

• priority in replies, tags and in the search engine, which is to be crucial to reduce spam and scam;
• the ability to publish longer and shorter video and audio files;
• half as many ads.

As for the character limit in entries, it was initially increased from 280 to 4,000. For Musk, however, it was still not enough, so in April this year. the limit was increased againthis time up to 10,000 characters.

Another two months pass and – you guessed it – Twitter is again increasing the character limit for people who have purchased a Blue subscription. Prachi Poddar, one of the engineers on the social media platform, reported this last week.

Elon Musk slows down for power

Elon Musk took over Twitter in October 2022. In this short time, the controversial billionaire managed to trigger several smaller and larger scandals related to the platform. He started his rule in the company by laying off half of the employees. He then introduced a new way to verify accounts, which sparked a tsunami of fake news on the platform.

In the meantime, Twitter’s new owner wrote an email to employees (those he hadn’t previously fired) giving them a choice: commit to the new “hardcore” Twitter or accept severance pay and leave.

“Only exceptional performance will provide a grade to move on,” Musk said in an email. He also said that the new Twitter will be led mainly by engineers.
