Maria Prati is dead. A 66-year-old Italian scientist of Polish origin died in an accident last Friday on the Naples bypass. An experimental car driven by Prati and her 25-year-old assistant exploded.

. The information obtained shows that last Friday evening there was an explosion on the Naples ring road. Experimental car powered by diesel fuel and solar energy exploded.

The car was driven by 66-year-old Maria Prati, an Italian scientist of Polish descent working at the Engine Institute of the Scientific Research Center (CNR) in Naples. The woman suffered third-degree burns over 90 percent of her body. She was immediately rushed to the Caradelli Hospital, but could not be saved. On Monday evening, the researcher’s death was announced.

Prati’s 25-year-old trainee Fulvio Filace was also in the car driven by Prati. Despite severe burns, the man survived the accident. He underwent surgery on Monday at Cardarelli Hospital. Another one awaits him soon.

According to the police findings so far, the cause of the powerful explosion was a “cylinder with unknown content” in the car. Currently, we are waiting for a fire brigade report, from which we will probably find out what was in the container.

The Naples Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation into the matter. As part of it, a similar car to the destroyed Volkswagen Polo Tdi, a prototype used in the scientific project led by Maria Prati, was seized. On Monday, the director of the CNR institute was also questioned.

The aim of the investigators is to determine why the cylinders with the mysterious content were in the car, whether their presence was related to the project and whether the transport took place in safe conditions.
