Microsoft has decided to raise the price of the Xbox Series X console in all markets, except Japan, USA, Chile, Brazil and Colombia. The price of the cheaper Xbox model, the Series S, will remain unchanged. We will pay more for the Xbox Game Pass service.

Xbox Series X will be more expensive. How much will we pay for the console?
The Xbox Series X European price is currently 475 euros. It will be after the raise 550 euros. In Poland, Microsoft’s device costs money PLN 2,399. Assuming that the price of the console will go up by ~ PLN 300, we will soon pay about PLN 2,700 for Microsoft equipment. This would mean that the console will be more expensive than the competing PlayStation 5 (and in the version with a Blu-ray drive!).
The Redmond company is playing a risky game here. It’s no secret that Xbox is second to PlayStation in terms of sales. Data published in May by the European Commission show that on the EU market . – The EC, however, did not specify whether it is only about the latest generation of consoles.
shows that by the end of March 2023, 35.9 million copies of the PS5 were sold worldwide, while the Xbox Series X/S sold just over 21 million copies. Raising the price of Microsoft’s console may widen this gap even further.
The price of Xbox Game Pass is also up
This is not the end of the increases. Because at the same time, Microsoft decided to raise the price of the popular Xbox Game pass service, also known as the “Netfliks of the gaming world”. In Poland, individual subscription plans will become more expensive as follows:
- Xbox Game Pass (Console) – PLN 40 -> PLN 42.99;
- Xbox Game Pass Ultimate (Console + PC) – PLN 54.99 -> PLN 62.99;
- Xbox Game Pass (PC) – PLN 39.99 (unchanged).
The increases are not gigantic, but the Game Pass Ultimate subscription was not cheap before, and the fact that we will now have to pay over PLN 60 for this service is rather not optimistic.
The price increases for Game Pass will go into effect on July 6, but only for new users. Existing customers will pay more from August 13. People who have purchased a Game Pass for a longer period (e.g. for a year) do not have to worry about increases until the subscription is renewed.
