Teachers at a Taiwanese kindergarten are accused of drugging their students after blood tests showed traces of sedatives such as phenobarbital and benzodiazepines in at least eight children.
The garden is located in New Taipei City and has raised the alarm among parents. They observed abnormal behavior of their children.
Speak against NBCNewsAngela Wang, of the Taiwan Children’s Rights NGO, explained that the videos showed the children agitated and even physically aggressive, they also revealed that they were allegedly given a “smelly and bitter” juice.
“If they refused to take it, they would be punished… They had been beaten by the teachers and some were locked in the bathrooms,” he told the portal.
There were demonstrations by parents and other people demanding an investigation into the facts. The garden’s license was revoked and the directors were also fined approximately $5,000.
The events are said to have taken place in mid-May and a dozen parents reported the incident to the police at the beginning of June.
