You have a higher amount on your account? Orange has increased fees for some. “Inflation Clause”

Orange customers can expect an increase in fees, even if their contract is still in effect. This is the effect of the so-called inflation clauses chosen by several operators. How do they work and how deep will you have to reach into your wallet?

The Orange network announced on Monday the introduction of fee increases for some customers based on the so-called inflation clauses, which (and he was not the only company that decided to do so) and this is a kind of security that the operator can use at any time during the term of the contract. Now the orange network has decided to do it, but to a rather limited extent.

Price increase during the term of the contract. It’s possible

Orange Polska customers are to receive messages informing about the increase in subscription prices. For now, this applies only to some customers (several thousand people) who use fixed-line internet under an indefinite-term contract. Unless, of course, they signed their contract already with the inflation clause attached. Price increases are expected to be small and amount to 4%. compared to the amount in the contract, which will translate into a maximum increase of a few zlotys (approx. PLN 2-6). They are therefore definitely lower than inflation, which has been at the level of several percent for many months. Earlier this year, a similar step was taken, but in her case, the increase was directly related to inflation and amounted to 14.4 percent.

As Jacek Kunicki, member of the management board for finance at Orange, explained, this year the clauses will be activated in the case of such a small number of customers that the impact on them will be “insignificant”. Kunicki also emphasizes that this is not a way to get rich, but a hedge against high, long-term inflation.

Inflation clauses have never been an important topic for us in 2023. This is not a way to get rich, but a hedge against high inflation for a long time. You could say it’s our ‘insurance policy’. This year, we are launching inflation clauses for customers who have contracts for access to fixed-line internet and packages for an indefinite period. In practice, this will apply to several thousand customers who signed a contract for an indefinite period after May 2022, when these clauses appeared in our new contracts. This year, the activation of the clauses will not apply to customers of our other services

– Jacek Kunicki told PAP.

Higher amount on the UPC account? There is a way to avoid it

UPC Polska customers can also find unusual (higher) amounts on their bills. The Play network (owner of UPC Polska) explains that this is due to the ending “promotion periods of the contract (commitment periods)” for some customers. Three months before the end of the period, the operator sends a message to customers with information about the transition to an indefinite-term contract and an offer to extend the commitment.

– In order to avoid an increase, it is enough to extend the contract on the same or better service parameters – explains the network in an interview with the portal. Currently, contracts are usually concluded for two years, and after this period – if the customer does not choose a different one or does not extend the current one – extended for an indefinite period. Temporary contracts, however, often involve discounts, which may disappear after these 24 months (it strongly depends on the specific offer and operator).
