Here is the new Xbox Series S – all in black. Microsoft threw in more memory and… raised the price

Microsoft presented a new variant of the Xbox Series S console in black. The device received a larger SSD with a capacity of 1 terabyte. Unfortunately, the price has also gone up. The console will hit stores in September.

It’s been over 2.5 years since the launch of the latest generation of Microsoft consoles. While the more powerful and expensive Xbox Series X in terms of hardware is still holding up well, the cheaper variant of the device, i.e. the Xbox Series S – is starting to tickle the mouse.

Perhaps the biggest problem of this console is the NVMe SSD with a capacity of only 512 GB. Considering the fact that the average high-budget game “weighs” from 50 to even over 100 GB, we can only install 3-4 titles on the console at the same time. And it is worth remembering that the Series S model, unlike the Series X variant, does not have a Blu-ray drive.

The problem of low memory can be circumvented – by purchasing a special expansion card. The problem is that these cards are extremely expensive. Suffice it to say that a Storage Expansion Card with a capacity of 1 terabyte costs from PLN 800 to PLN 1,000.

Fortunately, Microsoft decided – at least partially – to meet the expectations of players and on Sunday during the Xbox Games Showcase conference presented a new variant of its cheaper console. Xbox Series S Carbon Edition is available in black (carbon black) and has a 1 TB SSD – twice as much as the standard version of the device.

At the same time, a company from Redmond however, it increased the price of the device from $299 to $349. In turn, in Poland, the Xbox Series S Carbon Edition is to cost PLN 1,649, while the variant of the console in white and with 512 GB of memory is currently priced at PLN 1,399. The new Xbox variant will be available in stores (also in Poland) on September 1, i.e. right after the holidays.

that the Xbox Series X/S consoles sold 18.5 million units worldwide last year. For comparison – the much more popular PlayStation 5 found as many as 30 million buyers.
