Dominican media reported the heroic act of an Ecuadorian on one of his beaches. It was Félix Guerrero, a 67-year-old from Guayaquil, who was on tour in the Central American country.

Guerrero and a friend had bought a tourist package to the Dominican Republic for which they had been traveling since last Sunday and their arrival was expected on Friday. On Wednesday afternoon, however, his relatives received tragic news.

His daughter Lourdes Guerrero says her father collapsed from a heart attack around 2:30pm after rescuing two children and one of their parents on Saona Island.

“What his friend could tell me is that the sea was already getting a bit rough, but ever since my dad saw those minor children who were drowning, he stepped in to help them and when he got them out he collapsed in the sea ​​and had a heart attack,” he told EL UNIVERSO newspaper.

According to Diario Libre of the Dominican Republic, Guerrero died of pneumonia suffocation by immersionthis would have been caused after the collapse.

One of the minors has been admitted to hospital, the other is doing well given the circumstances. Both were part of another tour to that destination. The father of one of them was also saved by the older adult.

Guerrero, who worked as a driver, underwent heart surgery in 2020 and had regular checkups.

The friend has already traveled to Ecuador and the tourist office told them there was nothing they could do there, except that neither she nor her two brothers have passports.

Lourdes said members of the Ecuadorian embassy in that country have already communicated that they will receive the body repatriationHowever, he claims not to have the financial resources to do so. Therefore, help from the authorities is expected to fund the process.
