Meta, a huge conglomerate responsible for Facebook, Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp, wants to have one more social networking site in its portfolio. This time, Mark Zuckerberg’s company plans to create a service similar to Twitter. Does Elon Musk have anything to be afraid of?
This is what Meta’s new social platform will look like
Until now, not much was known about the new Meta product. Meanwhile, work on the platform is probably at a fairly advanced stage. The conglomerate has now called a special meeting at which some employees were presented with what the new social network should look like. Photos showing the application, however, quickly leaked outside the company, and they were found and published by a technological company.
The company apparently does not intend to hide this at all. Meta product director Chris Cox stated during the meeting that the app will be “our answer to Twitter”. He also revealed that the working name of the platform is Project 92, although – according to The Verge – the finished project will be made available to the world under the name Threads or Meta Threads. Cox also stated during the meeting that he sees interest from creators and stars in the presence of a “sensibly run platform” that they “could trust” and “rely on.” This is, of course, a reference to the rather chaotic way of managing Twitter by the eccentric Elon Musk. The distinguishing features of Meta’s product are to be “safety, ease of use, reliability”, so that creators and celebrities have the right environment to build an audience.
The Verge also reports that Mata is to encourage famous names (including Oprah and the Dalai Lama) to join Threads in the first place to promote his platform. What’s more, joining the service is to be facilitated, because during the registration process, the new service will be able to automatically download data from Instagram of a new user. Meta began development work on the app in January this year, and the product is expected to be made available to the public “as soon as possible”.
