Peruvian authorities have announced the seizure of a large shipment of arms and ammunition destined for Ecuador.

On Wednesday afternoon, officers intervened at some carriers and discovered that nine bags of ammunition were being carried in a vehicle. Those arrested were in a park in the area known as Nuevo Tumbes with the aim of reaching the Ecuadorian border.

The bags contained 350,000 rounds of ammunition. The agents also moved to a warehouse the shipment came from and found more of it, as well as weapons.

Four detainees were registered during the operation. This shipment is said to have left Lima and its destination was gangs operating in Ecuador.

“We are developing a bi-national plan, with authorities from both countries, to manage the arms and ammunition trade between the two countries,” said Javier Gonzales, head of the Tumbes Police Front.

The uniformed man indicated that the ammunition was for hunting as well as revolvers of various calibers. Those conducting the operation attempted to move the bags across the border.
