Two children have been miraculously rescued from a car that caught fire while parked in a shopping mall in Florida, United States.

They had been left in the vehicle by their mother, who, to make this story stronger, was caught “stealing” at a local mall in Oviedo, a Seminole County town.

The events took place at noon on May 26, 2023 in Oviedo, Florida, CNN en Español reported.

Police identified the children’s parent as 24-year-old Alicia Moore.

what happened at the mall

To everyone’s surprise and shock, the children were rescued from the car that caught fire. They were taken to a hospital. One of the minors suffered burns to his face and ears, the American news channel reports.

According to the police investigation, Alicia Moore was stealing items from a store while accompanied by a test subject.

The woman’s movements were recorded. It was learned by the uniformed officers that “he left the store when he saw his car engulfed in flames, he dropped the stolen merchandise and ran out of the store.

“He started running towards the car,” El Nuevo Herald continued.

This case occurs in a country where there are frequent cases of parents forgetting their children in the cars. And with pain, it is also known that many have died from prolonged exposure to the sun, to the heat.

Negligence?

Considering that she almost took the life of the two minors, the accusations against the mother for alleged negligence were not long in coming.

Moore, El Nuevo Herald reported, was detained and requested a lawyer.

“She was eventually arrested by Orlando police for several warrants in other counties, unrelated to the incident, the same outlet explained.

She was taken to “the Orange County Jail and Moore was charged with severe child neglect and arson.”

Four other charges were filed against her “of petty theft, assault and assault for prior incidents and she is being held on $48,000 bail, CNN reported, citing prison records.

Was there negligence on the part of the mother of the babies or not? It’s the question many in Florida are asking themselves in this case.

The investigation began and police responded to the heat of the event: “It has not been established what caused the fire, but had Moore not been negligent it is unlikely that (the child) would have been injured.”
