Criticism is pouring in on a pre-candidate for mayor of Cali, Colombia, for an attack she was the victim of that turned out to be a set-up that she says she was unaware of.

“Go home, Mija,” a young man calls to her from a silver car.

“Is that your answer to the debate?” continues the subject, and immediately afterwards he takes a plastic bottle and throws water in his face.

‘The woman must be home. He needs a strong hand,” the man insists.

The “aggression”, in the streets of the capital Valle del Cauca, was registered. Dressed in fuchsia, Catalina Ortiz is surprised by what happened in full view of everyone.

Ortiz said he hoped what he had suffered would serve to highlight violence against women, such a serious problem in his country. He then filed the complaint with the persecution.

I want to thank all the people who have shown solidarity with me despite this unfortunate act of machismo and aggression. The widespread rejection is very encouraging.

Catalina Ortiz on Twitter

It was all a setup

In networks, the video was widely criticized by calling it sexist violence.

Ortiz was a congressman for the Green Party and is running for mayor of Cali. Their networks say, “I got a scholarship to Harvard and to Congress with a ballot.”

The truth came out and network users regret “falling” for the deception.

In videos and Twitter messages, they remind him that sexist violence “is not a joke”.

“The Catalina Ortiz thing is absolutely reprehensible and disgusting. Political violence against women is stormy enough to capitalize on it. What it does is fuel much more violence,” an activist named Lalis, who claims to be a content creator, says on Twitter.

In Network+News They published a video in which the publicist of Cali’s mayoral candidate, Isa la Negra Vikinga, confirms that the “macho aggression” was a montage.

He assures that it was a “performance” to demonstrate the machismo that reigns in the streets.

Medellín’s mayor, Daniel Quintero, had offered a reward to find the man who attacked Ortiz. He said he would give 10 million pesos, of his own salary, to identify the assailant of Cali’s mayoral candidate.

When the truth came out, Quintero tweeted on June 1: “Ms. Catalina Ortiz, the source who gave me the information, not only confirmed that the meeting with you was scheduled, but that you participated in tasks to identify the ‘aggressor’ and that it has not been discovered by the media.”

Journalist Johana Fuentes tweeted: “Catalina Ortíz’s deception showed that campaigning politicians are overstepping any limit.”

“My apologies, I was not aware”: Catalina Ortiz

“I sincerely apologize for what happened,” Catalina Ortiz said as she popped the balloon.

this was his answer to the awkward incident:

1) I’m sorry for what happened and I repeat that I didn’t know what happened was a staging. I was never made aware of this, nor did I pay for it nor did I know it wasn’t real until now a video has surfaced.

2) The attacks on women are a reality and not a game.

3) I sincerely apologize for what happened and I ask that this serve to build a united front for the defense of women’s rights.

4) To all the people who have trusted us, I repeat my pain for these events and I assure you that we will try to turn this outrage and social rejection into an element of protecting women in our society.

The mayor of Medellín lamented: “Macho violence is a reality that kills many Colombians every year. I’m sorry I fell into the trap as this minimizes and trivializes the thousands of real cases. The candidate Catalina Ortiz must answer for this montage that has misled us all.
