Gazeta.pl was contacted by a reader who had a very unpleasant adventure, which turned it into a time full of stress. The man was cut off from his money – despite repeated talks with the bank not to do so.
In May, the reader rested in Gran Canaria, where from the first day of his stay he made numerous transactions with a payment card issued by a large Polish . However, after a few trouble-free days, a problem arose.
At night I wanted to pay for food in one of the restaurants in Maspalomas. However, I heard from the staff that my card was blocked. This was the beginning of trouble. And at the same time the end of a peaceful holiday

The bank blocks the card. Despite repeated requests not to block it
The man received a text message in which the bank informed that he would be contacted about a suspicious transaction. The reader, however, did not want to wait and immediately grabbed the receiver. After several minutes of waiting, he gave up because no one picked up. The situation became clear only after a few hours.
In the morning, a representative of the bank called me and after verification, she unblocked the card. I informed the consultant that I was on holiday in Spain. I was assured that the information would be in the system so that there would be no further attempts to block the card. Reassured, I set out to explore the island. Unfortunately, around noon, when trying to settle the debt, the card turned out to be blocked again – writes the reader.
With undisguised anger, he called the bank and heard that the card, contrary to morning declarations, had not been unlocked at all. – Again, I explained that I was on holiday and that this behavior of the bank seriously hindered my rest. I explained that I had to be ashamed in front of shopkeepers and restaurateurs, not to mention new friends from the island – he reports.
I felt like a scammer trying to extort some money.

The bank once again assured that the card was unblocked. And that such a situation will not happen again. – Again, I explained where I was. I indicated that I will be resting for a long time, which is why foreign transactions will still appear. I asked not to block my cards, because it prevents me from resting. But that didn’t help much.
In the evening, while paying for dinner, the situation repeated itself. I had to ask friends for help.
The next day, the man had another conversation with the bank. – I filed a complaint and a complaint. I did not understand why my instructions given by the helpline were ignored. Once again, I explained that I was asking for unblocking the possibility of paying by card in Gran Canaria – the man reports.
The reader of Gazeta.pl quickly realized that the conversation with the bank had no effect. Moreover, the situation has worsened.
I heard that the card will no longer be blocked. I immediately went to the store to make sure I could pay with it. To my surprise, I heard that the card was no longer blocked, but revoked. I realized I could throw it in the trash.

I heard that the algorithm decided that payments in Gran Canaria are not safe. I asked why so during the first days of my stay on vacation I could pay by card without any problem. However, the tourist had protection. A second card issued by the same bank. But that didn’t help much. – Previously, I used a multi-currency card so as not to lose money on currency conversion. The second card I had was a PLN account card. Unfortunately, when trying to pay, I found out that this card has also been revoked. Not even blocked, and immediately invalidated – reports the tourist.
The bank cut me off from my money. He denied me the ability to withdraw funds. Once again, I called the bank, which suggested that I withdraw the funds using BLIK. Once again I reminded you that I am in Spain, where this system does not work. Then the bank threw up its hands and said it couldn’t help me. The bank offered … PLN 54 in compensation
The bank finally started working. First, he apologized for the situation and admitted that the decision to void the cards was unnecessary. – They offered me compensation in the amount of three times PLN 17.90, to maintain “positive relationships”. I felt like I had been punched in the face,” the man writes.
The exchange of correspondence with the bank continued after returning from vacation. It turned out that filing a complaint makes sense. – The bank finally put forward a settlement offer. I agreed to this and currently I have no claims against the bank – explains the reader.
