India, a newborn, clung to life and overcame adversity within minutes of birth. Her mother left her in a plastic bag in a wooded area in Georgia, United States.
Through Providence’s work, she was rescued after receiving a distress call from the police.
The little girl was crying, which caught the attention of several people. They first believed this “sound” came from an animal, but later confirmed it was a crying baby.
The baby was found on the night of June 6, 2019, and authorities noticed she still had the umbilical cord.
The girl was abandoned in Cumming, a Georgia town, the sheriff’s office confirmed, Telemundo reported.
That phone call saved the little girl. Authorities were mobilized to the location, where “strong electrical storms were expected to hit the area,” Sheriff Ron H. Freeman told reporters on Friday, May 26, 2023.
Shocked, the paramedics at that time cleaned her up and covered her with sheets, checking her health condition. Luckily he was okay.
The next step was to take her to a hospital before tracking down her mother and locating her family.
“How a mother can do such a cruel thing is incomprehensible and irritating to all of us,” authorities wondered, as Telemundo noted.

What happened to the baby’s mother?
News of the baby’s abandonment was released through a video that the county sheriff’s office itself authorized to be released in 2019.
This is how they thought they could obtain data to reach the mother, explains the information chain.
It was the authorities who gave the girl a name: they called her India.
Time passed, the covid-19 pandemic came and the investigation to find the woman did not stop. Last week India’s mother was finally arrested.
10 months ago “they did a DNA test” to have more secure leads and they found the girl’s father, giving a very important twist to this story, they told the media.
Karima Jiwani, 40, was arrested Thursday and charged with criminal attempted murder, aggravated assault, reckless abandonment, first-degree cruelty to minors and other charges, the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office said, according to US media reports.

Jiwani reportedly has “a history of hidden pregnancies and surprise births”.
How is India doing, they asked. The authorities did not hesitate to respond: “India is a happy, healthy girl.”
More than 200 people were willing to adopt from India, Spanish media reported in June 2019 20 minutes.

Freeman continues to marvel at what this little girl had to go through to survive. His mother is said to have given birth in a car and left her in the conditions already described.
For this and more, he commented on the child’s rescue, according to Telemundo: “It was divine intervention.”
