This Tuesday, the Colombian prosecutor’s office carried out an inspection at the Casa de Nariño, the headquarters of the executive branch, for the investigation opened into the alleged theft of money at the home of Gustavo Petro’s chief of staff, Laura Sarabia, and in that there would have been an abuse of power by using a polygraph on a former nanny.

“The diligence that will be carried out today, May 30, aims to collect information and carry out verification work to establish the existence of security cameras in front of the entrance to the Galán building, where it is apparently located the polygraph room,” the Public Prosecution Service said in a statement.

Semana magazine revealed the testimony of Marelbys Meza, who worked as a babysitter in Sarabia’s house and said that as soon as the official was made aware of the robbery, security officers took her to a building in front of the presidential palace to question her and to subject. to an identity test, lie detector without a court order.

It is not yet known how much money was in a suitcase.

For its part, the Casa de Nariño indicated that the robbery took place in January 2023 and that the complaint in question was filed that month.

“We reject versions of alleged abuse of power, misuse of public funds and mistreatment of defenseless people,” the government said in the statement, adding that “the procedures” to which the former babysitter was subjected “were carried out in the dependencies of the headquarters for presidential protection, visible for years, duly identified and arranged in the same location.

This situation arises during a dispute between Attorney General Francisco Barbosa and Gustavo Petro.

Barbosa pointed out that only the prosecution can carry out investigative processes into crimes within its jurisdiction. He also clarified that the situation that took place on Tuesday was “the judicial procedure that will be carried out is an inspection at the request of a prosecutor from the specialized directorate against human rights violations.”

It will also inspect the Presidency Protection Headquarters to find out the list of people who, between January and February this year, were part of the security and transportation plan assigned to Sarabia, considered Petro’s right-hand man.

“The physical evidence and material evidence collected will strengthen the prosecution’s investigation into alleged harm to a woman who worked with Dr. Laura Sarabia,” the document said.
