Kiev, the Ukrainian capital that has been attacked several times since the start of the Russian war in February last year, was the target of dozens of drone bombs early Sunday morning.

Air defense forces reported downing 52 of the 54 drones targeting Ukraine from Russia. About 40 were aimed at Kiev.

“This is the largest drone attack on the capital since the start of the Russian invasion,” Ukraine’s military government wrote on its Telegram channel. The spokesmen explained that the warning lasted more than five hours and that the missiles came in waves.

The attack left several injured and at least two dead in the Ukrainian capital as a result of the impact of the drones. Authorities said “debris fell on a seven-story building” in the Golosiivskiï district, killing one person and injuring another. They also caused a fire in a warehouse.

The other person, a 41-year-old man, died in Solomianskiï neighborhood after being hit by another downed drone.

Most of the capital’s population was in underground bomb shelters after being alerted.

Russia says it has put an end to Ukrainian commando attacking Belgorod

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, this time Russia targeted “military installations and critical infrastructures in the central regions of the country, especially in the Kiev region”.

Air strikes have been consolidated as a strategy in the conflict between the two countries. In early May, Ukraine again prevented a heavy Russian air raid on its capital. Moscow had used its Kinzhal hypersonic aeroballistic missiles, described as some of the most advanced weapons in the country’s arsenal.
