One hundred people, most of them in their twenties, demonstrated this Wednesday in Miami against Florida Governor and already official candidate for the 2024 Republican primary, Ron Desantis, whom they labeled as ‘fascist’.
Demonstrators gathered in a park in the Brickell neighborhood, the city’s financial center, and then marched from there to the hotel where a meeting of DeSantis supporters and donors is being held where the governor is said to be.

DeSantis registered his candidacy, highly anticipated, before the Federal Election Commission this morning and is expected to make an official announcement this afternoon in a conversation with businessman Elon Musk on Twitter Spaces.
The demonstrators carried banners with slogans such as “the good people of Florida rise up against DeSantis”, “We are against fascism”, “Never DeSantis” or “DeSantis against the working class” and other rainbow flags from the LGTBQ+ community.
During the march to the hotel, slogans such as “my body my choice, your body your choice” or “Racist DeSantis”.
Miss Miei, of the Decrim 305 organization, which defined herself as a sex worker, told EFE she was speaking out because “DeSantis’ policies are a danger to all of society.” Tomás Jiménez, a young man born in Chile but living in the US since he was 2 years old, believed that if DeSantis wins the Republican primary, “it would be a disaster for the country”. He also said that “fascism is not welcome in Florida”.

There were no incidents during the concentration and the ensuing march, and police were relatively discreet when they arrived at the Four Seasons hotel in Brickell.
In recent months, several civil rights organizations have denounced the legislative “hostility” of Florida governor and Republican presidential nominee Ron DeSantis toward minority groups.
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) has just issued a travel warning to its members to the southern state. African Americans and restrict diversity, equality, and inclusion programs in Florida schools.
Florida is “openly hostile to African Americans, people of color and LGBTQ people”, said NAACP this week.
The League of United Latin American Citizens also issued a similar warning, as did two LGBTQ organizations, Equality Florida and the Human Rights Campaign.
In his second term as governor, DeSantis has bolstered his ultra-conservative agenda with laws further restricting abortion, banning gender identity and sexual orientation from schools, or abolishing racial diversity programs in public universities.
In July, one of the toughest immigration laws in the US will go into effect, equating undocumented immigrants with criminals and punishing those who aid them.
