Android Authority: Samsung-exclusive chip will be available to other smartphones
Samsung will lose the exclusive license to produce smartphones based on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, Android Authority reports.
The well-known insider under the nickname Digital Chat Station learned that Samsung will lose a unique license for a top-end processor. According to the expert, in the near future, other smartphone manufacturers will start producing devices based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor.
Reserved specifically for Galaxy smartphones, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 differs from the regular Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor by supporting higher clock speeds and overclocked graphics. The performance of the chip and graphics system is five and six percent higher, respectively. Until recently, only Samsung had access to the processor.
Insider Digital Chat Station did not disclose smartphones that will receive an improved processor in the near future. According to Android Authority journalists, devices based on Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 can be released by ASUS, OnePlus and Xiaomi.
In mid-May, insiders said that Samsung will introduce the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 smartphones on July 26. Foldable devices should go on sale on August 11.
