Earth will receive a signal from an extraterrestrial civilization. The simulation will start soon

Scientists will simulate a signal from an extraterrestrial civilization, and then attempts will be made to decipher the message. Everyone can participate in signal interpretation.

As part of a major project by the SETI Institute, the Green Bank Observatory, Italy’s National Institute of Astrophysics and (ESA), scientists want to see if humanity can read a message from an extraterrestrial civilization. To this end, they intend to carry out an extraordinary .

Earth will receive a signal from an extraterrestrial civilization. Scientists announce a simulation

May 24, 2023 at At 21:00 Polish time, ESA’s Trace Gase Orbiter (TGO) will send a coded signal to Earth, which is supposed to imitate a message from an extraterrestrial civilization. The signal, 16 minutes after sending, is to be received by three radio astronomy observatories: Allen Telescope Array (ATA), Robert C. Byrd Green Bank Telescope (GBT) at Green Bank Observatory (GBO) and Medicina Radio Astronomical Station.

The coded message will be made public and anyone willing will be able to take part in deciphering the information, he explains on his website. During this process, the institute will conduct a live broadcast in which it will present interviews with, among others, Dr. scientists, engineers and artists. However, data from the signal will be stored in Breakthrough Listen Open Data Archive and Filecoin.

A signal from an extraterrestrial civilization would be a ‘deeply transformative experience’

– Receiving a message from an extraterrestrial civilization would be a deeply transformative experience for all humanity. A Sign in Space offers an unprecedented opportunity to practice and prepare for such a scenario through global collaboration, supporting the search for meaning across cultures and disciplines, said Daniela de Paulis, the artist behind the A Sign in Space project, quoted in a release from the SETI Institute.
