A new student visa plan has been outlined following a decision by the UK government to reduce migration, that was only 500,000 people in June 2022. The rules will include restrictions on family reunification.

Under current immigration law, parents or spouses of people on student visas can accompany them to the UK. But that’s in the new plan only graduate students designated for research programs are allowed to invite dependent family members.

In 2022, according to official data, about 136,000 visas were issued to family members of foreign students, up from 16,000 in 2019.
